POSTED 10-4-07

Our weekly digest of everything fantasy college football. Facts don't lie and The Drill is full of 'em. Projections for the weekend of Oct. 5-Oct. 7. Stats through Oct. 3:

THADDEUS LEWIS
Duke, QB
Comment: Duke's 10-point loss against Miami was almost just as good as a win. Lewis did his part, 18-of-27, 241 yards and two touchdowns.

KORY SHEETS
Purdue, RB
Comment: Rushed 27 times for 141 yards against Notre Dame as the Boilermakers continued their climb up the polls.

JAMES HARDY
Indiana, WR
Comment: Huge game in 38-20 win against Iowa. He caught four passes for 138 yards and scored a touchdown. That's 28.3 yards per catch.

ED DICKSON
Oregon, TE
Comment: Dickson caught six passes for 67 yards in a loss to California, season highs in both.

KEVIN EBERHART
Colorado, K
Comment: Eberhart was having a decent day with three extra points and a field goal. The 45-yard game winner he nailed made it even better.

TEXAS TECH
Defense
Comment: The offense wasn't the only show in town last weekend. The Red Raider defense gave up only seven points in a 75-7 win.

MATT GROTHE
South Florida, QB
Comment: Yep, his team got its biggest win in school history by beating West Virginia, but who would call 11-of-20 for 135, a touchdown and two picks a good day.

TYMAGIC ROBINSON
Sam Houston State, RB
Comment: Misplaced Oklahoma quarterback Rhett Bomar wasn't welcomed at Oklahoma State either. He did throw for 270 yards but no touchdowns and an interception. The point here though is that he outrushed Robinson 33-21, the leading actual running back in the loss.

TJ LEE
East Carolina, WR
Comment: He got into the end zone, but on his only catch in a 37-35 win against Houston. You can find a lot more guys to help your numbers.

WESLYE SAUNDERS
South Carolina, TE
Comment: Junior caught only one pass for six yards in a win against Mississippi State.

JOEL MONROE
Minnesota, K
Comment: Monroe only saw the field one time. Not his fault, but definately not HOT.

WASHINGTON STATE
Defense
Comment: Alex Brink can put up big numbers, but if his defense continues give up 40 points a game, he'll continue to get into holes he can't get out of.

SETH ADAMS
Ole Miss, QB
Comment: Adams has found a rhythm as a first time starter, throwing for more than 300 yards twice and has helped develop the SEC's best deep threat in Mike Wallace. Homecoming opponent Louisiana Tech is giving up 286 passing yards per game.

JOSH FREEMAN
Kansas State, QB
Comment: Not the most flashy guy in the country but very effective. Going against a tough Kansas defense, he'll have to be again. Expect a couple of conservative touchdown passes.

STEVE SLATON
West Virginia, RB
Comment: Slaton was outrushed by a teammate in the loss to South Florida. Don't expect that to happen against Syracuse, no matter who's starting under center.

ALBERT YOUNG
Iowa, RB
Comment: Good out of the backfield as a back and a receiver. The senior averaged more than six yards per carry and nearly 15 per catch in a 38-20 loss to Indiana last week. He'll be one of a few guys who can find room to roam against Penn State.

DARRIUS HEYWARD-BEY
Maryland, WR
Comment: When Maryland goes to the air, which wasn't much in last week's win at Rutgers, they look to Bay. He has big play ability and 100 yards and a score wouldn't surprise me against Georgia Tech.

MARIO MANNINGHAM
Michigan, WR
Comment: You haven't heard a lot about him and you can thank Appalachian State for that, but start him against an Eastern Michigan team allowing almost 400 total yards per game. He had 10 catches for 123 yards and a touchdown last week.

TRAVIS BECKUM
Wisconsin, TE
Comment: This guy continues to be the player we thought he would, hauling in 10 catches for 132 yards and a score in last week's win against Michigan State. Expect good numbers against a surprising Illinois team allowing 242 pass yards per outing.

RYAN THOMPSON
Boston College, TE
Comment: He could really be profiting from BC's high-flying offense. The senior made his first appearance of the season last week, but is worth a sleeper spot if you need a guy.

WES BYRUM
Auburn, K
Comment: Tiger quarterback Brandon Cox is finally coming around, getting Gator-killer Byrum on the field a few times. Start him throughout SEC play.

SAM SWANK
Wake Forest, K
Comment: The Deacons are playing a lot better and Swank is solid on field goal duty and extra points.

WYOMING
Defense
Comment: The Cowboy defense has allowed on five touchdowns this season and hosting TCU shouldn't affect that number too much. Tough place to play.

USC
Defense
Comment: The Trojans can't be happy about being ousted from the top of the rankings after a win, so expect a novel try at a shutout of Stanford, who will coincidentally be without starting quarterback T.C. Ostrander.

ANDREW ROBINSON
Syracuse, QB
Comment: Robinson had a great day in an upset of Louisville two weeks ago and good day in a loss to Miami (OH). With West Virginia calling, the good times have come to an end.

CHRIS SMELLEY
South Carolina, QB
Comment: Smelly has been good since taking over for Blake Mitchell, but Kentucky will be a tough challenge. Smells like trouble.

OMAR CONTEH
Northwestern, RB
Comment: Conteh had a good game against Michigan with 115 yards and a score, but Michigan State has allowed only 10 touchdowns this season and Conteh may not add to that total.

P.J. HILL
Wisconsin, RB
Comment: Sit Hill. You'll rarely hear that, but the surprising Illini are allowing less than 100 yards on the ground per game.

JACOBY FORD
Clemson, WR
Comment: Tech is allowing only 187 passing yards per contest, so avoid driving the Ford, who had only three catches for 58 yards in a 113-3 loss at Georgia Tech.

ROBERT JOHNSON
Arkansas, WR
Comment: The Razorbacks are yet again playing a cupcake, but the Chattanooga cupcake is pretty good against the pass. Take another route.

JED COLLINS
Washington State, TE
Comment: Collins is dependable, averaging more than 40 yards per game, but Arizona State is good against the pass and the defense has allowed only six touchdowns all season.

EDDIE WILLIAMS
Idaho, TE
Comment: Williams accounted for three touchdown, the only three the Vandals had in a loss to Hawaii. Don't get too excited for a second straight outburst, but one every other week isn't a stretch for the 6-1 junior.

DEREK BELCH
Stanford, K
Comment: Stanford is posting a monstrous 12.8 yards per games and that doesn't mean four field goals every time out.

STEVEN HAUSCHKA
NC State, K
Comment: The Wolfpack scored only 10 on porous Louisville defense, and Florida State is much better to say the least. Start him only if you can pronounce him.

AUBURN
Defense
Comment: They held Florida to 17 points, so I can unexplainably see Vandy posting about 40 on the confusing Auburn Tigers.

TENNESSEE
Defense
Comment: Tennessee gives up 250 yards on the ground each Saturday and Georgia has a couple of backs that will be glad to take them.

Florida Gators quarterback Tim Tebow will face his toughest challenge yet against the LSU defense.

174 Yards allowed per game by LSU. That number makes Florida Gators quarterback Tim Tebow coming to town that much more interesting.

102 The Cotton Bowl in Dallas will play host to the 102nd meeting of Oklahoma and Texas in the Red River Shootout. Texas owns a 57-39-5 advantage in the series, and the 2007 contest marks the 33rd time both teams have come into the game ranked in the Top 25.

100 South Carolina's victory over Mississippi State Saturday was the 100 SEC win for coach Steve Spurrier. In 15 seasons, he's 100-25 in the conference.

3 Three Big Ten teams are currently ranked. Two of them aren't Michigan and Penn State thanks to a consistently bizarre college football season thus far.

RALPH SPRY
Minnesota, WR
Comment: Spry caught his first career touchdown pass in last week's loss to Ohio State. With the Gophers having a tough go of it, Minny should get him as much experience as possible and turn him into the top threat he can be.

MIZZOU AERIAL
vs. Husker Defense
Comment: The Huskers are allowing more than 400 yards per game and Missouri quarterback Chase Daniel is thrilled about it. His team puts up nearly 550.

NOTRE DAME
vs. Ben Olson
Comment: Irish eyes aren't smiling too much these days. Notre Dame is 0-5 and a loss at UCLA Saturday would be eight in a row, the worst in school history. To keep from it, freshman quarterback Jimmy Clausen will need to outdo UCLA's Ben Olson. Both could use a solid performance to keep their jobs. There's a subplot worth watching, even it you have to watch Notre Dame.

SOUTH FLORIDA
vs Rusty Smith
Comment: The Bulls are the No. 6 team in the nation. You know what's next though. Florida Atlantic quarterback Rusty Smith is pretty good. Prior to a below par outing against Kentucky last week, he totaled 885 yards and six touchdowns in two games.

QUENTIN GROVE
Auburn, DE
Comment: Grove's left the Florida game on crutches and his dislocated toes (OUCH) will keep him out of the Vandy game. Sophomore Antonio Coleman moves to Groves' spot while true freshman Antoine Carter gets Coleman's vacated spot.

MIKE MASSEY
Michigan, TE
Comment: Massey will miss the remainder of the year with a knee injury that occurred in the third quarter of the Wolverines' win over Northwestern.

JOSH RIDDELL
Mississippi State, QB
Comment: Riddell is the second Bulldog quarterback to crash into the injury list. A torn ACL Saturday at South Carolina means he'll ride the pine for the remaining time.

T.C. OSTRANDER
Stanford, QB
Comment: Ostrander had a seizure last Sunday. Hospitalized for close to seven hours, tests came back clean but the scary incident will have him benched Saturday against USC.

PAT WHITE
West Virginia, QB
Comment: White has a thigh bruise from a helmet hit last Friday that may or may not keep him out Saturday. We don't for sure and Rich Rodriguez ain't telling.

PURDUE @ OHIO STATE

Fri. 8 p.m. ET
Ohio State really benefited when a mass group of its Top 25 buddies all lost. The Buckeyes catapulted all the way to No. 4. That ranking is severely in jeopardy Saturday though when OSU hits the road to face No. 23 Purdue. The Boilermakers are led by quarterback Curtis Painter, who throws for more than 300 yards per game on average. The Ohio State defense will have its hands full. They've allowed only three touchdowns all year, but they haven't actually played the cream of the crop. Purdue is the first real challenge on the schedule and how they handle it will either move them up the poll or see them switch places with the Boilermakers.
