POSTED 11-14-07

Our weekly digest of everything fantasy college football. Facts don't lie and The Drill is full of 'em. Projections for the weekend of Nov. 14-Nov. 18. Stats through Nov. 13:

CHASE CLEMENT
Rice, QB
Comment: Two straight weeks with 300 yards passing, 100 yards rushing and, most importantly for the Owls, two victories. Last week in beating SMU, he threw a pair of touchdowns and ran for two more.

KEVIN SMITH
UCF, RB
Comment: Suddenly Tulane's Matt Forte has company in the NCAA rushing race. Smith has run for 537 yards and six touchdowns the past two weeks, including a 332-yard, four-score effort in the Knights' win at UAB.

ANDRE CALDWELL
Florida, WR
Comment: In 49 career games, Caldwell has just four 100-yard games, but two came in the last two weeks. First, he caught nine balls for 103 yards and two touchdowns as the Gators beat Vanderbilt, and last week he posted career highs in catches (11) and receiving yards (148).

RYAN PURVIS
Boston College, TE
Comment: When the Eagles have been playing from behind, Purvis has been Matt Ryan's go-to man. He has three touchdown catches the past two weeks, and in BC's loss at Maryland reeled in 10 balls for 102 yards.

ROMEEN ABDOLLMOHAMMODI
Washington State, K
Comment: In addition to having one of college football's great names, he's had a great boot for Wazzu of late. Abdollmohammodi has hit his last seven field-goal attempts, including from 40, 23, 32 and 31 yards in the Cougars' win over Stanford last week.

UTAH
Defense
Comment: In three of the last four weeks, the Utes pass rush has recorded five or more sacks. They blanked Wyoming 50-0 a week ago, getting to Cowboys QBs Ian Hetrick and Karsten Sween seven times.
CURTIS PAINTER
Purdue, QB
Comment: Through five games, Painter looks like Kyle Orton. And like Orton, he caved when the Boilermakers hit the Big 10 schedule. Painter's thrown just seven touchdown passes in six games since tossing 19 in leading Purdue to a 5-0 mark to start the season.

DEONTE JACKSON
Idaho, RB
Comment: Jackson lucked upon the Vandals' starting job and became one of those real good bad-team backs. Since his hot start, he's really faded, and the last two weeks he's failed to rush for even 50 yards.

LUCAS TAYLOR
Tennessee, WR
Comment: The junior was a borderline WR1 the first half of the year; you would have been better off benching him the second half. Taylor hasn't found the end zone in a month, averaging just 41 yards receiving in that four-game span.

FRED DAVIS
USC, TE
Comment: Davis has slipped from his top-five status. With tight ends, you depends on touchdowns, and Davis hasn't notched one in the last three weeks.

DEREK BELCH
Stanford, K
Comment: Belch has missed from 38, 32 and 27 twice in the past three weeks alone. They've made drives that have averaged eight plays and 58 yards moot, and have all come in Cardinal losses.

SOUTH CAROLINA
Defense
Comment: The Gamecocks D looked like world beaters when it shut down Georgia and Kentucky. However, the last two weeks, it's given up 99 points to Arkansas and Florida. For perspective, South Carolina has yielded just 88 in its six wins.

DAN LEFEVOUR
Central Michigan, QB
Comment: LeFevour's another one of those double threats under center, with 19 passing touchdowns and 10 rushing touchdowns this year. The Chippewas host Eastern Michigan, which has given up 91 points the past two games.

THADDEUS LEWIS
Duke, QB
Comment: Look, Notre Dame's fourth in the country in passing yards against! Well, that's what facing Navy and Air Force, who are 1-2 in rushing, will do for your numbers. The Blue Devils, on the other hand, are last. Lewis is going to get an opportunity to really air it out against an Irish D that's given up 19 touchdown passes.

JUSTIN FORSETT
California, RB
Comment: If Cal were still contending, we'd be talking about him as much as Oregon's Jonathan Stewart. Instead, he continues to quietly produce monster outings. This week, the Bears face Washington's 102nd-ranked run D.

CHAD HALL
Air Force, RB
Comment: We love Hall because he's one of those guys whose number gets called on every down no matter the situation. He leads the team in rushing, receiving, punt returns and kick returns. Expect more of that against San Diego State.

JORDY NELSON
Kansas State, WR
Comment: Nebraska gives up 70, scores 70. Could KSU do the same? No. However, the folks in Manhattan were humiliated by last week's loss. Missouri isn't invincible against the pass; in case there's any doubt of that, Nelson's due for another huge day.

ZACK SLEDGE
SMU, WR
Comment: Although Phil Bennett's probably done after this year, at least his offense is flourishing as he heads out the door. Sledge has caught five touchdown passes the last two weeks, and with UCF coming to town, they'll likely be playing catch-up again.

GARY BARNIDGE
Louisville, TE
Comment: He's turned into one of those guys that you trot out there no matter the matchup. This week, however, the matchup's a good one. South Florida gave up touchdowns to tight ends in consecutive losses to Rutgers, UConn and Cincinnati.

JAMES CASEY
BYU, TE
Comment: This kid's going to put up some big numbers in Dallas. The frosh have been a favorite target of Chase Clement, having caught at least five balls in each of the last four games. Ride him down the stretch here. The Owls face Tulane and Tulsa at home.

TONY CIARAVINO
Connecticut, K
Comment: For the Huskies, next week against West Virginia is for all the marbles, and surely they remember last year's embarrassing loss to Syracuse. This time, it's Senior Day in Hartford, a Big East title is still in reach, and no lead is too small.

JUD DUNLEVY
Virginia Tech, K
Comment: Three kickers — Florida State's Gary Cismesia, NC State's Steven Hauschka and Carolina's Connor Barth — have hit four or more field goals against Miami this season. That's enough for us.

BOISE STATE
Defense
Comment: We'll take Idaho and the 34 points, but we're counting on a 33-0 type game. Boise's just too physical and really feeds off its crowd. The Broncos should control the trenches and the game.

GEORGIA TECH
Defense
Comment: The Yellow Jackets get to the quarterback better than anybody in the country. Just ask Virginia Tech and Duke, which combined to give up 14 sacks the last two weeks. We like T.J. Yates at North Carolina, but we'll see how effective he is on the run all day.

PAT BOSTICK
Pittsburgh, QB
Comment: Dave Wannstedt has yet to loosen the reins on the freshman-driven Panther offense. Expect Bostick on a lot of three-step drops and screens to neutralize the Rutgers pass rush.

JUICE WILLIAMS
Illinois, QB
Comment: A great performance against Ohio State, no doubt, but this is a guy whose job was in jeopardy a month ago. He's an OK play against Northwestern this week, but he won't soon throw for four scores again.

BENJARVUS GREEN-ELLIS
Mississippi, RB
Comment: Green-Ellis took advantage of a bad matchup (Northwestern State) to put up his biggest fantasy day (120 yards, three TDs). Against LSU, Ole Miss won't be in the game long enough to utilize its ground attack. Stay away.

NICHOLAS GRIGSBY
Arizona, RB
Comment: Willie Tuitama can't do it all by himself, so the Wildcats need a big game from Grigsby to have a prayer against Oregon. Don't count on it. The Ducks are too explosive; Tuitama's arm's likely to get a workout.

D.J. HALL
Alabama, WR
Comment: Hall's in and out of the boxscore, and he's especially a no-show in the non-conference cupcake games. Hall's already got his eyes set on Auburn next week. Plus, the Tide ground game should do fine against Monroe.

MATT SIMON
Northern Illinois, WR
Comment: The Huskies are more than willing to test their running game against the Navy D and keep the Middies' offense off the field. After North Texas' Casey Fitzgerald went off, it's tough to bench Simon, but NIU doesn't have that kind of weaponry.

KELLEN DAVIS
Michigan State, TE
Comment: We're just not convinced that Davis is a real part of the Spartan offense. He had one or two catches in seven of the first eight weeks, yet suddenly he's Keith Jackson and hauls in scoring passes in back-to-back weeks? Expect him to revert to his usual role of emergency target when MSU hosts Penn State.

ZEEK ZACHARIE
Louisiana-Monroe, TE
Comment: Zacharie's really come on since a slow start, scoring touchdowns in three consecutive weeks. However, his slow start was for a reason — the Warhawks faced inarguably their four toughest tests to date. The toughest of all, though, is this week at Alabama. Don't do it.

OBI EGEKEZE
Maryland, K
Comment: The Terrapin offense just doesn't inspire confidence, even after putting up 42 on BC. Egekeze has had more than two field goal attempts just once this season, and in that game, he went 2-for-5. There are better options out there this week.

DANNY HORWEDEL
Louisiana Tech, K
Comment: Horwedel's just 9-for-16 this year, easily his worst effort in four seasons at Tech. As if that wasn't enough to sit him, thunderstorms are expected in Ruston on Saturday. He's a no.

HAWAII
Defense
Comment: Finally a team that can really trade with the Warriors-Nevada. Hawaii's known for its high-flying offense, but its defense has had quite a season, too, holding teams to 23 points per game (37th in the nation). They'll get a dose of reality on Friday against Colin Kaepernick and the Wolfpack, who average 494.4 yards of offense.

KENTUCKY
Defense
Comment: Anybody else think Georgia's looking like the best team in the SEC? The Dawgs have got five straight games in the 40s at home, including wins over Auburn and Florida. Kentucky's D has had a nice year, but not that nice

Mauser is UPDATE! College Football Editor.

915 Passing yardage for Nebraska quarterback Joe Ganz in his first two career starts. Ganz sat behind Zac Taylor and Sam Keller for two and a half seasons before finally getting the nod against Kansas. All he's done is throw for 11 touchdowns and record the third and fourth 400-yard passing days in Nebraska history.

35.77 Average yards per kickoff return for Fresno State's A.J. Jefferson, best in the nation. Think about that. On average, the Bulldogs are up near midfield to start every drive after he touches the ball.

8 Touchdown passes thrown by North Texas quarterback Giovanni Vizza last week against Navy. Amazingly, it came in a losing effort. The Mean Green lost to Navy, 74-62, giving up 572 rushing yards — 49 less than Oregon State has in 10 games this season.

4 Interceptions by Georgia in last week's 45-20 victory over Auburn. The Bulldogs had picked off four passes in the previous nine games combined.

JEREMY MACLIN
Missouri, WR
Comment: Of all the weapons that quarterback Chase Daniel has at his disposal, Maclin may the most dangerous. Gary Pinkel gets him the ball every way he can think of — through the air (742 yards, seven TDs), on the ground (279 yards, four TDs), on punts (12.7 ypr, two TDs) or on kickoffs (22.9 ypr). That's over 1,000 yards from scrimmage and touchdowns in three different fashions, which, for a freshman, is unthinkable.

CULLEN HARPER
vs. Boston College
Comment: Harper's fantastic season has been overshadowed by Matt Ryan's Heisman campaign, but it might not stay that way. BC's been brutal against the pass, making Drew Weatherford and Chris Turner look like Charlie Ward and Boomer Esiason. The winner of this game likely decides the Atlantic Division rep in the ACC title game. If BC wants to be there, it better make Harper throw earlier than he wants to.

MIKE HART
vs James Laurinaitis
Comment: These guys going head-to-head pretty much determines the flow of the game. Michigan's offense suffers terribly when its ground game isn't working, and no team's stuffed the run better than Laurinaitis and OSU. The more touches for Hart, including screens and passes underneath, the better of the Wolverines are.

PAT WHITE
vs. Cincinnati
Comment: West Virginia's got back-to-back massive games. Before getting UConn next week, the Mountaineers need another patented Pat White outing. The last two weeks, he's thrown for 300 yards and rushing for 100 more in a pair of wins. White's gotta do a lot of both against Cincy, which, aside from South Florida, has done the best job keeping him under wraps in the past.

OHIO STATE @ MICHIGAN

Saturday, 12 p.m.
This time of year, the DVR's working overtime. Clemson-BC, Kentucky-Georgia, West Virginia-Cincinnati are all must-sees, too, but the game you positively cannot pass up is the one. The Buckeyes are no longer vying for a national championship after last week’s loss, but as is custom in this matchup, Saturday's showdown is for the Big 10 title. It's hard to believe after Michigan's early-season meltdown and loss to Wisconsin, but it's true. Get comfortable. A helmet may fly into your living room.
