POSTED 9-13-07

Our weekly digest of everything fantasy college football. Facts don't lie and The Drill is full of 'em. Projections for the weekend of Sept. 13-Sept. 17. Stats through Sept. 12:

CURTIS PAINTER
Purdue, QB
Comment: Painter had an unreal day against Eastern Illinois, throwing six touchdowns on 39-of-49 attempts for 348 yards. The ice was waiting on the sideline.

JONATHAN DWYER
Georgia Tech, RB
Comment: Tashard wasn't the only choice for the Jackets last week. Dwyer scored three touchdowns and had 138 yards on only nine carries.

MARCEL REECE
Washington, WR
Comment: Somehow it's an upset that a major conference team beat Boise State, but whatever it was, Reece helped it happen with 102 yards on four catches — 25.5 yards per catch.

ROB GRONKOWSKI
Arizona, TE
Comment: He caught only two passes, but found the end zone on one of them and averaged 32.5 yards per reception.

WES BYRUM
Auburn, K
Comment: Byrum is pretty much the only hot thing on The Plains. He made three field goals, with a long of 49.

LSU
Defense
Comment: If holding the 18th-ranked team in the country to seven points and 149 total yards doesn't get you on the hot list, then nothing will. Not to mention, it was Saturday's prime time national television affair. No pressure on the Bayou though.

KIRBY FREEMAN
Miami, QB
Comment: Miami's starter threw for only 17 yards on 3-of-9 passing in a 51-13 loss to Oklahoma last week. He's since been demoted in favor of Kyle Wright.

ARMANDO ALLEN
Notre Dame, RB
Comment: The Irish are looking to let their freshmen earn their stripes, but 11 yards on eight rushes isn't going to keep you in the lineup.

JOSH MORGAN
Virginia Tech, WR
Comment: The senior left Baton Rouge with four catches for 20 yards, the leading wide receiver in the humiliating 45-0 loss. Running back Brandon Ore had the most receiving yards - 24.

CONNOR BARWIN
Cincinnati, TE
Comment: Barwin caught only two passes for 15 yards even though his Bearcats scored 34 points and threw for 199 yards.

JASON GINGELL
Michigan, K
Comment: Gingell had just one extra point and missed his only field goal in the Oregon loss. The Wolverines just can't get it going right now.

TEXAS A&M
Defense
Comment: A Top 25 team isn't supposed to allow 399 yards, especially not on home turf. At least they won or they might have lost their No. 25 ranking. Just ask Michigan if that's possible. The Aggies actually jumped a spot following the 45-42 triple overtime win.

ANTHONY MORELLI
Penn State, QB
Comment: The Nittany Lions are headed to 3-0 at the expense of Buffalo, which gave up 177 passing yards to Temple of all teams and 328 to Rutgers, whose specialty is rushing.

TYLER LORENZEN
Connecticut, QB
Comment: The Huskies are 2-0 and Lorenzon has a lot to do with it. In a 38-0 win against Maine, he threw two touchdown passes and ran for another. He finished with seven rushes for 42 yards and 186 yards passing on 17-of-26. Plus, he'll be hosting the same winless Temple team that gave up 414 total yards to Buffalo.

ADARIUS BOWMAN
Oklahoma State, RB
Comment: Troy has given up 115 points in its 0-2 start and the Cowboys will profit again in Week three. Bowman had six catches for 135 yards, including a 77-yarder and two touchdowns last week.

RASHARD MENDENHALL
Illinois, RB
Comment: Mendenhall is flying under the radar on an Illinois team that is real close to being 2-0. He should find the end zone at least once, maybe twice with more than 100 yards against a hapless Syracuse team.

ERIC DECKER
Minnesota, WR
Comment: Florida Atlantic gave up 22.5 yards per catch to Oklahoma State's Adarius Brown. Decker had 18.3 yards against Miami (Ohio). He's licking his chops at this one.

NATE JONES
Texas, WR
Comment: Jones had nine receptions in Texas' opener and eight in a 34-13 win against TCU. His one touchdown mark will eventually go higher and Saturday at Central Florida would be the place to start. The Golden Knights gave up 272 yards in their only game of the season, a 25-23 win at North Carolina State.

MARTIN RUCKER
Missouri, TE
Comment: He's big (6-6, 255), fast and even lines up under center on occasion. Caught four for 58 and a touch against Ole Miss.

CHASE COFFMAN
Missouri, TE
Comment: Yep, start both of them. They both scored last week and combined for ten catches, six for this guy.

DANIEL LINCOLN
Tennessee, K
Comment: The Vols have a good offense, but Florida tends to stuff teams before they find the end zone. Lincoln should have at least a couple of field goal tries in Gainesville.

JUSTIN ESTES
Southern Miss, K
Comment: He made 3-of-4 kicks against Tennessee. The Golden Eagles get him a lot of attempts.

UCLA
Defense
Comment: UCLA is headed to Utah, where the Utes have scored only 19 points in two losses. The Bruins have scored 72. Not a good combo if you're Utah.

IOWA
Defense
Comment: Iowa has allowed three points in wins against Northern Illinois and Syracuse. Iowa State has scored only 27 - 14 against Kent State and 13 against Northern Iowa. They may not reach that against the Hawkeyes.

BRANDON COX
Auburn, QB
Comment: After a 45.7 percent completion percentage and two interceptions against South Florida, Tommy Tuberville is no longer pumping his guy for All-SEC mention. Not right now at least.

KIRBY FREEMAN
Miami, QB
Comment: Or Kyle Wright for that matter. If Miami doesn't know who to start, then don't start either one of them on your team.

BRANDON BORNES
San Diego State, RB
Comment: Bornes averaged 10.3 yards on seven carries in a season opening win for the Aztecs, but Arizona State hasn't given up more than 40 rushing yards yet. Don't do it.

C.J. GABLE
Southern Cal, RB
Comment: No Trojan back went over the century mark against Idaho and the following bye week won't help against Nebraska, which keeps opposing offenses off the field as much as possible with their own stud back, Marlon Lucky.

TERRENCE NUNN
Nebraska, WR
Comment: Nebraska's leading wide receiver won't have too many spaces against on of the country's best defenses with Southern Cal coming to town.

DEVIN THOMAS
Michigan State, WR
Comment: For the first time this season, Thomas and the Spartans may have to actually work for the end zone. Pitt has allowed only one touchdown.

TOM SANTI
Virginia, TE
Comment: Santi was money with two touchdowns against Duke....Again, AGAINST DUKE.

JAKE BRADFORD
Vanderbilt, TE
Comment: Bradford caught only one pass in a loss Saturday to Alabama. The Ole Miss team he faces this week may get beat in the secondary, but not as much as up close in tight end land.

BEN HARTMAN
East Carolina, K
Comment: He hit all four of his point after attempts against North Carolina, but hit only 2-of-5 field goals. Don't risk it.

JUD DUNLEVY
Virginia Tech, K
Comment: Until the Hokies figure out where the end zone is, this guy would be riding the pine. He'll make about as many field goals from there at this rate of speed.

MIDDLE TENNESSEE STATE
Defense
Comment: I doubt anyone, in their right mind at least, would be considering using them, but just in case you did, please check LSU's first two scoring totals.

ARIZONA
Defense
Comment: Improved but not yet there and New Mexico State out up 44 last week. I know it was against New Mexico State, but you didn't think ASU would lose to BYU either did you?

Washington State quarterback Alex Brink threw five touchdowns to beat San Diego State last week.

111 Points scored by Citadel in a 2-0 start to the season. The Bulldogs play at Wisconsin Saturday at Noon ET.

87 Western Kentucky scored 87 points in a win against West Virginia Tech.

38 Washington State quarterback Alex Brink completed 38-of-47 passes in a 45-17 win against San Diego State last week, a school record, one more than Drew Bledsoe's 37 in 1992. The 469 yards Brink threw to go along with that is only the third best in school history. He also had five touchdowns.

9 Years since Miami was beaten like they were at Oklahoma Saturday. Syracuse beat the 'Canes 66-13 on Nov. 28, 1998.

JOE MCKNIGHT
Southern California, RB
Comment: The nation's most sought after prospect carried the ball six times in his debut against Idaho. Keep an eye on this guy and don't miss it when he decides to break out.

BRIAN BROHM
vs Kentucky pass defense
Comment: The Wildcats have given up just 201 yards through the air, but they haven't seen an offense like the Cardinals. This is a great state rivalry and a lot of people unfortunately don't know that. Kentucky bought billboards in Louisville featuring the top Wildcats players. Tell me that won't add fuel to the fire.

MIDDLE TENNESSEE STATE
vs. Baton Rouge
Comment: They're not facing last week, but they are facing what many think to be the best in the country in Baton Rouge. After their shootout with Louisville, everyone wants to see if they can finish the job against another Top 10 team.

VIRGINIA TECH OFFENSIVE LINE
vs. Ohio defensive line
Comment: Ohio has two wins over lackluster opponents and Tech has one win, but an unimpressive one against East Carolina. With freshman Tyrod Taylor starting for the Hokies, his early reputation will largely depend on who wins this trench battle.

ANTWON MOORE
Kansas State, OLB
Comment: Hurt excelling at his job, the Wildcats' starting outside linebacker apparently injured his knee while sacking San Jose State quarterback Adam Tafralis. He is expected to miss the rest of the season.

JOSH PINKARD
Southern Cal, CB
Comment: Out for the rest of the season with torn ACL.

DEXTER MCCLUSTER
Ole Miss, WR
Comment: Could miss up to six weeks with shoulder issues. Has yet to see time despite being involved in game week workouts.

JAMIE CHRISTENSEN
Alabama, K
Comment: Questionable for Saturday with a quadriceps injury.

CHAD HENNE
Michigan, QB
Comment: Lower leg injury suffered against Oregon will bench him against the Irish.

TENNESSEE @ FLORIDA

Saturday, 6 p.m. ET ESPN-TV
Let the SEC season begin. South Carolina beating Georgia last week was just a taste of things to come. Tim Tebow would like nothing more than to start off on the right foot against a Volunteer team that needs this win even more after losing to Cal. The loser won't find it easy to climb back to the top of the East with this loss. Florida has won 15 of the last 21 meetings. While the Vols haven't looked great offensively, Tim Tebow is second nationally with a 228.2 rating. This is by far his biggest test so far in 2007.
