WINTER WOES

POSTED 10-03-07

There are rotisserie heroes and fantasy goats. But some performances are so ugly, egregious or plain perplexing that it begs the refrain: What the F--k! Here is Update's seriously twisted moment this week.

Everybody has been talking about the New York Mets historic regular season collapse this week. Now perhaps the Mets meltdown was the most dramatic regular season failure, but they were just one of several NL teams that faded down the stretch. How about the Milwaukee Brewers? The first-half poster boys for the feel good story of the year turned into an on-field abomination during the second half, cementing their status as perennial losers. Remember back in August when they lost 18 of 27 games to allow those darned Cubs to take over the NL Central? Or how about the San Diego Padres, who failed several times to clinch their division and eventually lost in the thirteenth inning of a one-game playoff against the Colorado Rockies. No, the Mets aren't the only ones who deserve the back page scorn of the press and media. They're just one of a handful of teams that under-performed in the second half (or over-performed in the first-half if you like). Either way, it's going to be a long winter full of second-guessing and bad dreams for a bunch of players this year.

David Wright will have all off-season to forget about the Mets late-season collaps.
