FADING STARS

POSTED 10-23-07

There are rotisserie heroes and fantasy goats. But some performances are so ugly, egregious or plain perplexing that it begs the refrain: What the F--k! Here is Update's seriously twisted moment this week.

It's probably fitting that both Cadillac Williams and Ronnie Brown have seen their seasons, and possibly their careers, end in similar fashions. After all, they rose to prominence together in a daunting Auburn backfield; the dynamic tandem led the Tigers to a 13-0 record and a No. 2 national ranking in 2005. Both were selected with top picks in that year's drafts, and both were highly sought commodities that could only succeed in the NFL. That is until the always-lingering specter of injury swept in and derailed the promising start Williams and Brown had built towards in 2007. Coming into Sunday's game, Brown led the NFL in yards from scrimmage and had recorded four straight 100-yard games. He twisted his knee and will miss the rest of the season. Meanwhile, Williams found the end zone three times in his first three games before suffering a torn patellar tendon in Week 4. What gives? It's a real shame. The NFL has lost two premiere running backs and the games fastest rising stars. Hopefully you caught these two in action together at Auburn, because you might not get a second chance.
