THE FIRING SQUAD

POSTED 11-20-07

There are rotisserie heroes and fantasy goats. But some performances are so ugly, egregious or plain perplexing that it begs the refrain: What the F--k! Here is Update's seriously twisted moment this week.

So, whose to blame for the New York Knicks sluggish 2-7 start? Don't point fingers at newcomer Zack Randolph or even Stephon 'Starbury', the abhorrent point guard that fled Phoenix following a demotion to the bench. No, if someone must be blamed let it be coach Isiah Thomas, who has done everything he can to derail the once proud Knicks franchise both on and off the court. Forget the nasty sexual harassment lawsuit during the off-season that had owner James Dolan shelling out millions to a former intern. Instead, look inside the locker-room for the reason the Knicks have opened the season like a bunch of D-Leaguers. He's failed to handle his biggest superstars' ego and lost the respect of his entire team. After Marbury's inexcusable absence, Thomas took a vote. If any player, even a single one, didn't want him on the court during their recent road trip, he vowed to bench the irate point-guard. What happened? The team unanimously voted to bench Marbury, and Thomas cast aside his locker room wisdom and played him anyway. How does a coach lead a team that doesn't respect him? WTF! Dolan has backed Thomas, saying his job isn't being graded on a game-by-game basis. But you have to wonder how long Thomas can hold on to his job before he gets the axe.
