JUAN PIERRE

RYAN HOWARD
Philadelphia Phillies, 1B
Comment: Not like you need to be told to start Howard, but this season he has really put a hurting on San Diego (.700 AVG, 2 HR, 8 RBI, 4 R, 0 SB in 10 at-bats) and Los Angeles (.333 AVG, 3 HR, 5 RBI, 5 R, 0 SB in 12 at-bats).

Comment: Home numbers this year might surprise you: .316 AVG, 3 HR, 23 RBI, 17 R, 2 SB in 95 at-bats.

DUSTIN PEDROIA
Boston Red Sox, 2B
Comment: Comment: Those in need of batting average help can plug Pedroia in due to his numbers this year against the Devil Rays (.350 AVG, 0 HR, 0 RBI, 1 R, 0 SB in 5 games) and White Sox (.400 AVG, 0 HR, 1 RBI, 0 R, 0 SB in 3 games).

TROY TULOWITZKI
Colorado Rockies, SS
Comment: Home numbers this season are favorable: .322 AVG, 9 HR, 36 RBI, 31 R, 2 SB in 53 games.

JACK WILSON
Pittsburgh Pirates, SS
Comment: Enjoying a tremendous August (.410 AVG, 2 HR, 6 RBI, 10 R, 1 SB in 39 at-bats) and he should keep it going against the Rockies and Astros.

JOSH FIELDS
Chicago White Sox, 3B
Comment: Has been stroking the power-ball in August with 5 HR in 60 at-bats.

MIKE LOWELL
Boston Red Sox, 3B
Comment: Gold-glover has been a potent bat in '07 against the Devil Rays (.483 AVG, 2 HR, 8 RBI, 7 R, 0 SB in 7 games) and White Sox (.308 AVG, 1 HR, 4 RBI, 5 R, 0 SB in 4 games).

MELKY CABRERA
New York Yankees, OF
Comment: Important to note that in the past 28 days, the Melk-man has been on absolute fire: .352 AVG, 4 HR, 21 RBI, 22 R, 3 SB.

ADAM DUNN
Cincinnati Reds, OF
Comment: Good week to play him as he will be hitting in the comfy confines of the Great American Ball Park and has good numbers this season against the Braves (.300 AVG, 1 HR, 4 RBI, 2 R, 0 SB in 10 at-bats) and Marlins (.333 AVG, 0 HR, 2 RBI, 2 R, 0 SB in 15 at-bats).

RAUL IBANEZ
Seattle Mariners, OF
Comment: Has turned it on of late and has actually put up better numbers on the road this season: .286 AVG, 8 HR, 43 RBI, 31 R, 0 SB in 53 games.

JUAN PIERRE
Los Angeles Dodgers, OF
Comment: The freestyling outfielder is a solid bet due to his performance this year versus Philadelphia (.364 AVG, 0 HR, 0 RBI, 2 R, 2 SB in 3 games) and New York (.357 AVG, 0 HR, 3 RBI, 2 R, 4 SB in 7 games).

MATT GARZA
Minnesota Twins, SP
Comment: Quietly putting a great season together and he has pitched well against the Orioles in two career starts (2-0, 2.31 ERA, 1.29 WHIP, 5 SO in 11.2 IP).

SCOTT KAZMIR
Tampa Bay Devil Rays, SP
Comment: On a nice run right now and he has solid career numbers against Boston (5-3, 2.37 ERA, 1.22 WHIP, 91 SO in 83.2 IP) and Oakland (3-1, 3.18 ERA, 1.49 WHIP, 30 SO in 39.2 IP).

WANDY RODRIGUEZ
Houston Astros, SP
Comment: Can do no wrong at home this season: 6-2, 1.65 ERA, 0.95 WHIP, 69 SO in 81.2 IP. He's got two starts against poor offenses to boot in Washington and Pittsburgh.

DONTRELLE WILLIS
Florida Marlins, SP
Comment: D-Train struck out 11 on Tuesday and is 4-1 lifetime against Cincinnati with a 2.44 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 41 SO in 48 innings.

RUSSELL MARTIN
Los Angeles Dodgers, C
Comment: Has not looked anything like the player we saw in the first half of the season. Has also stunk this year against the Mets (.129 AVG, 0 HR, 2 RBI, 1 R, 1 SB in 31 at-bats) and Phillies (.167 AVG, 0 HR, 2 RBI, 1 R, 1 SB in 6 at-bats).

JAVIER VALENTIN
Cincinatti Reds, C
Comment: Those of you who need a replacement for C David Ross should not look to his back-up. While he is hitting .351 on the road, he's going to be at home this week, where he's batting a pathetic .203.

LANCE BERKMAN
Houston Astros, 1B
Comment: Inconsistent Berkman has been a dud this year against the Nationals (.250 AVG, 0 HR, 1 RBI, 3 R, 0 SB in 3 games) and Pirates (.227 AVG, 0 HR, 2 RBI, 0 R, 0 SB in 7 games).

KEVIN MILLAR
Baltimore Orioles, 1B
Comment: Has lived the Millar High Life against AL East teams, but has gone just 1-for-14 this season against both the Twins and Rangers this season.

GEOFF BLUM
San Diego Padres, 2B
Comment: Seeing time in the starting lineup due to Padres' reluctance to play Marcus Giles, but he's been awful on the road in 2007: .198 AVG, 2 HR, 8 RBI, 8 R, 0 SB in 103 at-bats.

RICKIE WEEKS
Milwaukee Brewers, 2B
Comment: The guy is still lousy despite being sent down to the minors for a couple of weeks and fantasy owners should not even look in his direction with the way the Brewers are playing.

RAFAEL FURCAL
Los Angeles Dodgers, SS
Comment: Road splits this season are not pleasant: .235 AVG, 2 HR, 18 RBI, 24 R, 3 SB in 51 games.

JOHN MCDONALD
Toronto Blue Jays, SS
Comment: Terrific glove, but he has been terrible recently and has not had a hit against either the Athletics or Angels this season.

BRANDON INGE
Detroit Tigers, 3B
Comment: Numbers are worse at home than on road in '07: .232 AVG, 7 HR, 27 RBI, 21 R, 2 SB in 53 games.

NICK PUNTO
Baltimore Orioles, 3B
Comment: Has been ineffective in 2007 against the Mariners (.167 AVG, 0 HR, 0 RBI, 2 R, 1 SB in 4 games) and Orioles (.250 AVG, 0 HR, 1 RBI, 4 R, 0 SB in 3 games).

MIKE CAMERON
San Diego Padres, OF
Comment: Combined stats against both the Mets and Phillies this season: .143 AVG, 1 HR, 1 RBI, 1 R, 0 SB in 21 at-bats.

JACK CUST
Oakland Athletics, OF
Comment: A mess on the road this year: .237 AVG, 8 HR, 27 RBI, 13 R, 0 SB in 41 games).

JERMAINE DYE
Chicago White Sox, OF
Comment: Playing better post-All Star break, but has struggled this year against Kansas City (.190 AVG, 0 HR, 1 RBI, 2 R, 0 SB in 5 games) and Boston (.167 AVG, 0 HR, 0 RBI, 2 R, 0 SB in 4 games).

JAY PAYTON
Baltimore Orioles, OF
Comment: Jay Gibbons is done for the year but don't expect Payton to go on a run similar to last year's Oakland tear. He's been a bum at home in '07 thus far: .240 AVG, 3 HR, 15 RBI, 16 R, 2 SB in 48 games.

ROY HALLADAY
Toronto Blue Jays, SP
Comment: Did pitch a complete game against the Angels earlier in the year, but he has a 4.88 ERA on the road. He also hasn't exactly been a problem for Los Angeles in his career: 5-4, 4.95 ERA, 1.29 WHIP, 51 SO in 76.1 IP.

FELIX HERNANDEZ
Seattle Mariners, SP
Comment: The King has been flat in his career against the Texas Rangers: 2-4, 5.44 ERA, 1.42 WHIP, 51 SO in 46.1 IP.

JOHN MAINE
New York Mets, SP
Comment: Appears to have hit a wall and has not had much success in his short career against San Diego (0-0, 6.00 ERA, 1.50 WHIP, 5 SO in 6 IP) and Los Angeles (0-2, 5.23 ERA, 1.26 WHIP, 6 SO in 10.1 IP).

GIL MECHE
Kansas City Royals, SP
Comment: You could find a better option this week. His career numbers versus the White Sox (5-2, 4.53 ERA, 1.40 WHIP, 31 SO in 57.2 IP) and Indians (2-6, 5.83 ERA, 1.67 WHIP, 41 SO in 54 IP) are not overwhelming.

Diamondbacks pitcher Brandon Webb stretches his scoreless innings streak to 42.

144 Consecutive games played without an error at second base by the Detroit Tigers' Placido Polanco. He broke the ML record on Aug. 13 against the Oakland Athletics.

101 Days passed between Oakland Athletics reliever Huston Street's ninth and 10th saves. He went on the DL on May 15 with nerve irritation and, at the time, there were whispers of Street missing the remainder of the season.

18 Errors made this season by Washington Nationals 3B Ryan Zimmerman, including one on Tuesday that led to a three-run rally for the Philadelphia Phillies, who won the game 3-2. Zimmerman had 15 errors all of last season.

5 Hits Chicago Cubs infielder Mark DeRosa had on Thursday in five at-bats, a career high. The Cubs won the game 12-4.

CLAY BUCHHOLZ
Boston Red Sox, SP
Comment: Perhaps the last top pitching prospect that MLB will see this season, Buchholz was strong in the minor leagues this year. He compiled a 7-2 record with a 1.77 ERA, 0.89 WHIP and 116 SO in 86.2 innings in Double-A Portland before moving on to Triple-A Pawtucket. There, Buchholz went 1-1 with a 3.26 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 48 SO in 30.1 innings. In his MLB debut Friday, in the first game of a doubleheader, Buchholz went 6 innings giving up 8 hits, 3 walks and 3 ER on the way to his first win (he also had 5 SO). There is one issue here to worry about, playing time. He was optioned back to the minor-leagues right after his debut, so this might be the only MLB action he sees this season. But just in case, make sure to keep tabs on him, because if he finds a rotation spot due to injury or poor play, he's worth owning, especially in keeper leagues.

INDIANS @ TIGERS
Division adversaries clash this week (with a three game set begining Tuesday) as the Detroit Tigers and Cleveland Indians try to posture for control of the AL Central. Both teams are playing under .500 for the month of August, but there's nothing like a big win over a fierce rival to get a hot streak going. The Indians are currently 7-5 against Detroit this season, but, interestingly, Cleveland has been outscored in those games 74-67. Anyway you slice it, this will be a highly contested match-up well worth watching. Cleveland will send Fausto Carmona, Paul Byrd and Jake Westbrook to the hill, while Justin Verlander, Nate Robertson and Chad Durbin will toe the rubber for Detroit.
