POSTED 1-3-08

Our weekly digest of everything fantasy football. Facts don't lie and The Huddle is full of 'em. Projections for the week of Jan. 4-Jan. 6. Stats through Jan. 3:

BEN ROETHLISBERGER
Pittsburgh Steelers, QB
Comment: Big Ben had a great season and led the Steelers to the playoffs yet again. Is there anything he can't do? Besides ride a motorcycle, that is.

ADRIAN PETERSON
Minnesota Vikings, RB
Comment: Peterson won offensive rookie of the year honors. He deserved it and had a great rookie campaign. If only his Vikes could've made the postseason.

PLAXICO BURRESS
New York Giants, WR
Comment: He was a big reason why the Giants hung with the New England Patriots for so long. Plaxico is a great player, even if he doesn't practice.

KEVIN BOSS
New York Giants, TE
Comment: He played well and created options for Eli Manning against the Patriots. He's stepped up in Shockey's absence and made his name known.

MASON CROSBY
Green Bay Packers, K
Comment: He had the most points of any kicker in the league at season's end.

NEW YORK GIANTS
Defense
Comment: They gave the Pats the best fight they saw all year. You can't take anything away from them.

VINCE YOUNG
Tennessee Titans, QB
Comment: Young hurt his hamstring in the season finale against the Colts. The Titans may have to start the drunken racist, Kerry Collins. Talk about doing your team a disservice.

SHAUN ALEXANDER
Seattle Seahawks, RB
Comment: The one-time rushing leader has had two injury plagued seasons now. It may be time for old gap-tooth to call it a career.

BOBBY ENGRAM
Seattle Seahawks, WR
Comment: He only had six touchdowns, but did gain over 1,100 yards receiving. He's not the best single game receiver, but his stats are decent.

TONY GONZALEZ
Kansas City Chiefs, TE
Comment: He was sporadic at best, you never knew what you were going to get from him.

SHAUN SUISHAM
Washington Redskins, K
Comment: He converted just 29-of-35 field goal attempts this season.

MINNESOTA VIKINGS
Defense
Comment: They couldn't stop the Broncos in order to make the playoffs. If anyone is overrated, it's them.

ELI MANNING
New York Giants, QB
Comment: He had the best game of any quarterback this season against New England. If he can do that, he can beat Tampa Bay.

LADANIAN TOMLINSON
San Diego Chargers, RB
Comment: He just won his second consecutive rushing title. How can you not start him?

MARVIN HARRISON
Indianapolis Colts, WR
Comment: He might make his return in the playoffs, if so, start the heck out of him. Harrison will want to make a statement, and what better place to do that than the playoffs?

ANTONIO GATES
San Diego Chargers, TE
Comment: He was about as reliable as tight ends come this season. Plus with LT on the field, defenses will focus on slowing the running game and ignore Gates.

LAWRENCE TYNES
New York Giants, K
Comment: Take away the swirling winds of the meadowlands and he's a good kicker. There should be friendly winds in Tampa, so he's a good go-to guy.

PITTSBURGH STEELERS
Defense
Comment: This blue-collar team will want to prove they're for real after a couple of bad losses.

VINCE YOUNG,
Tennessee Titans, QB
Comment:He hurt his hamstring in the final game of the season and might not play.

LENDALE WHITE
Tennessee Titans, RB
Comment: He didn't look great against the Colts and they were playing their scrubs. No chance he plays well against the Chargers.

SANTANA MOSS
Washington Redskins, WR
Comment: He only had three touchdowns and 808 yards. Not a great season for Moss.

BO SCAIFE
Tennessee Titans, TE
Comment: He was placed on IR with a lacerated liver. No chance he sees the field this postseason.

SHAUN SUISHAM
Washington Redskins, K
Comment: He's not reliable and I wouldn't count on him for anything.

NEW YORK GIANTS
Defense
Comment: Shaun O'Hara, Kawika Mitchell and Sam Madison didn't practice on Wednesday. That could be bad news for Big Blue.

Andrew Corselli is UPDATE! National Football League Editor.

17 Since 2000, only the 2006 Indianapolis Colts have won a Super Bowl after allowing 17-plus PPG.

16.4 The 2007 Colts allowed 16.4 PPG, the New England Patriots have allowed 17.1 PPG.

5 With Cam Cameron's firing on Thursday, the Miami Dolphins will be looking for its fifth coach in the last five seasons.

1 Cam Cameron lasted just one year as the Miami Dolphins' coach. Ironically, that is the same number of wins he produced.

RONDE BARBER
vs. New York Giants Defense
Comment: Come Sunday, we'll get to see if one identical twin can defeat his brother's former team. It will be fun to see who hurts the G-Men more, Ronde or Tiki Barbers cheap shots via the radio.

LADAINIAN TOMLINSON
vs. TITANS D
Comment: The rushing champ against a bruising defense, this is what the playoffs are all about.

SEAHAWKS OFFENSE
vs. Seattle Weather
Comment: If the Seahawks have to rely on their passing game in the rain, then the Washington Redskins don't even have to show up.

REDSKINS vs. SEAHAWKS

Saturday, 4:30 p.m. ET (NBC-TV)
The Redskins should win this one because, not only are they riding the emotion of Sean Taylor's death, but they also peaked at the right time. Plus, the Seahawks have a virtually non-existent running game — Shaun Alexander virtually collapsed under a myriad of injuries. Unless Matt Hasselbeck comes out firing on all cylinders, put this one in the books as a Redskins rout.

JAGUARS vs. STEELERS

Saturday, 8 p.m. ET (NBC-TV)
The Steelers have something to prove, but so does Fred Taylor, who was snubbed for a Pro Bowl selection. Discounting Week 17, the Jaguars won six of their last seven games and enter the post-season hot, hot hot. The Steelers offered up some questionable performances and finished just 6-5 after their bye. If the Jaguars can establish their rushing game early on, they'll run right away with this one.

GIANTS vs. BUCCANEERS

Sunday, 1 p.m. ET (FOX-TV)
It will be fun to see how the G-Men bounce back after their emotional loss to the New England Patriots in Week 17. Which Giants squad will show up? The team that can bang with the best of them or the team that lies down and plays like trash? Either way, the Giants are banged up on the defensive end and need Eli Manning to spark their offense.

TITANS vs. CHARGERS

Sunday, 4:30 p.m. ET (FOX-TV)
The Chargers are seriously underrated, especially after crushing opponents last season. This should be a fun, smash-mouth football game and could turn into a classic. It's surely the best of the Wild Card matchups. LaDainian Tomlinson needs a Super Bowl ring to validate his dominance as the reigning MVP, and a banged up Titans team could conceivably throw Kerry Collins on the field. Our money's on San Diego.
