POSTED 8-30-07

Our weekly digest of everything fantasy football. Facts don't lie and The Huddle is full of 'em. Projections for the weekend of Aug. 30-Sept. 2. Stats through Aug. 29:

VINCE YOUNG
Tennessee Titans, QB
Comment: Young went 13-for-19 for 162 yards and a touchdown and rushed for a score last week. Young doesn't have many skilled players around him, but he showed last season he can carry a team. He should be about the 10th quarterback taken. But, he is on the cover of the Madden video game, which means an injury is around the corner if you believe in jinxes.

LENDALE WHITE
Tennessee Titans, RB
Comment: White had 51 yards on 11 carries and had three catches for 23 yards in his first start of the preseason against the Bills. Chris Brown came off the bench and picked up 42 yards on six carries and two receptions for 25 yards. Both backs will likely be used early in the season, but expect White to emerge as the main back. He's a good No. 3 RB.

ANQUAN BOLDIN
Arizona Cardinals, WR
Comment: Boldin had 143 yards on five catches, including an 80-yard touchdown last week. Boldin had 83 catches last season for 1,203 yards and four touchdowns. Boldin has been going too late in drafts. He's an excellent fantasy option. Two years ago he had 102 catches. Expect his touchdown numbers to go up. He's a Top 10 WR.

HEATH MILLER
Pittsburgh Steelers, TE
Comment: Miller had two catches for 50 yards against the Eagles. Ben Roethlisberger completed four passes of 20 yards or longer. Bruce Arians is the new offensive coordinator and he will have the offense throw more than it has in the last few years, which is good news for Miller. He is going late in drafts and is a solid option as a tight end.

OLINDO MARE
New Orleans Saints, K
Comment: Mare went 3-for-3, nailing kicks of 28, 31, and 44 yards and converted all three extra points against the Chiefs. Mare had a huge year many seasons ago with the Dolphins, but has been average since. He will kick indoors and for a very explosive offense. He's a Top 15 kicker.

NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS
Defense
Comment: The Patriots held the Panthers to seven points last week and limited running backs DeShaun Foster and DeAngelo Williams to a total of 29 yards on 12 carries. New England is a top-five defense.

BRODIE CROYLE
Kansas City Chiefs, QB
Comment: The starting job was his to take and he coughed it up like the Yankees did against the Red Sox in 2004. He went 5-for-17 for 45 yards and threw his third interception in three games and the team didn't score in the three quarters he played in a 30-7 loss to New Orleans. Damon Huard was named the starter, even though he didn't play because of a calf injury. Huard was a career backup before taking over for the injured Trent Green last season and went 5-3. Croyle is the future quarterback and might be the starter eventually. Take Huard as a No. 2 quarterback in very deep leagues.

MARSHAWN LYNCH
Buffalo Bills, RB
Comment: Lynch had just nine yards on nine carries and a three-yard reception against the Titans. He has not had a great preseason and he plays behind a bad offensive line. He does have a lot of upside, but don't make him your No. 2 running back. He's more of a No. 3 running back, since all indications are he will get the bulk of the carries.

RANDY MOSS
New England Patriots, WR
Comment: He has been out since Aug. 1 with a hamstring injury. People will fall in love with Moss now that he's with Tom Brady. Moss has a history of hamstring injuries. The Patriots are being very cautious with Moss. He will go earlier than he should and you shouldn't be that owner to take him in the second or third round.

ALGE CRUMPLER
Atlanta Falcons, TE
Comment: He had two receptions for 15 yards in his preseason debut against Cincinnati. His numbers could decline now that Joey Harrington is at quarterback. Crumpler generally goes as one of the Top 5 tight ends, but don't take him too early.

LAWRENCE TYNES
New York Giants, K
Comment: Tynes hit a 40-yarder, but missed from 40 and 42 against the Jets. He's battling Josh Huston, who missed a 42-yard field goal in his only attempt. Stay away from the winner of this competition.

BUFFALO BILLS
Defense
Comment: The Bills allowed 393 yards, including 218 in the first half in a 28-17 loss to Tennessee last week. The Bills also lost starting cornerback Terrence McGee to a concussion and he will miss the preseason finale. Don't draft them.

PLAXICO BURRESS
New York Giants, WR
Comment: What injury doesn't Plexiglass have? Two sore ankles, back spasms and he had the flu last week. He hasn't practiced much and hasn't played in a preseason game at all. That spells a slow start. Burress is a No. 2 wide receiver when healthy, but you may want to pass on him due to his ailments.

DONALD DRIVER
Green Bay Packers, WR
Comment: Driver injured his foot last week against the Jaguars. The injury is not believed to be serious. He should be ready for week one.

TORY HOLT
St. Louis Rams, WR
Comment: Holt didn't play against Oakland because of a knee injury. He went off-season surgery to appear meniscus cartilage in his knee. The Rams say he isn't hurt, just not 100 percent. Holt says he is "70-80 percent healthy." Still, it raises eyebrows that he's not fully recovered from surgery eight months ago. Holt could get off to a slow start and since there is a cluster of top-tier wide receivers that could be ranked in any order, Holt will drop in drafts.

KEVIN JONES
Detroit Lions, RB
Comment: Jones will start the season on the Physically Unable to Perform list because of a left foot injury. Jones is almost fully recovered from Lisfranc surgery, but the team is being cautious. Don't ignore him in drafts. He will slip deep and you should take a chance on him.

MICHAEL TURNER
San Diego Chargers, RB
Comment: Turner is one of the better known backups because he could be a starter on most teams, but he's stuck behind LT. (I love calling LaDainian Tomlinson by that moniker because it upsets Giants fans). Turner seems to go too early in drafts since the owner hopes LT gets hurt and they get a bargain or to keep the handcuff away from the LT owner. This is actually good news for owners of LT because they should be able to snatch him later.

San Diego Chargers quarterback Phillip Rivers is already in mid-season form.

506 Yards of offense gained by San Diego in a 33-31 win over Arizona without LaDainian Tomlinson. Philip Rivers, a Top 10 quarterback, went 20 of 29 for 282 yards with touchdown passes of 33 and 6 yards to Vincent Jackson. Jackson had 92 yards on four catches. Jackson had 27 catches for 453 yards and six touchdowns last season. At 6-5, he is a huge target the Chargers will look at more, especially in the red zone. He is a good sleeper as No. 3 or No. 4 wideout.

233 Peyton Manning threw for 233 yards on 23-for-27 against Detroit and threw for three touchdowns. Manning is clearly the top-ranked quarterback. Just make sure you click on Peyton and not Eli when doing your draft online.

29 Points scored in three games for Kansas City and the defense has scored eight of them. The offense has scored just two touchdowns.

3 Quarterbacks started in as many games for the Oakland Raiders during the preseason. Josh McCown and Andrew Walter started the first two before Daunte Culpepper got the nod against St. Louis. Culpepper went 4 of 8 for 47 yards, including a 19-yard touchdown pass. He also gained 17 yards on three carries. He's the favorite to start Week 1, but McCown will start the final preseason game.

BRANDON JACKSON
Green Bay Packers, RB
Comment: Jackson said he feels better after suffering a concussion in Sunday's practice and was back at practice on Tuesday observing. With Vernand Morency still hurting, Jackson would be the starter opening week. Monitor his status and draft him as a No. 3 or No. 4 running back.

DWAYNE JARRETT
Carolina Panthers, WR
Comment: Jarrett hasn't done much this preseason. He had two catches for 24 yards against New England. Keary Colbert and Drew Carter are battling for the starting spot opposite Steve Smith. Jarrett shouldn't be drafted in 12-team leagues.

CALVIN JOHNSON
Detroit Lions, WR
Comment: Everyone seems to fall in love with rookies, especially when they are as talented as the 6-5 Johnson. The Lions will throw often, but remember Roy Williams and Mike Furrey are there, too. Johnson seems to be going too high in drafts. He could be good, but don't draft him early. Take him as a No. 3 or No. 4 receiver.

JACOBY JONES
Houston Texans, WR
Comment: Jones scored on a punt return for the second consecutive week, scoring on a 91-yard return against the Cowboys. He also scored on a 19-yard reception. He had two catches for 26 yards. Jones has had a great preseason, but Kevin Walter was named the starter opposite Andre Johnson. Jones is a good sleeper that could become a starter.

BRIAN LEONARD
St. Louis Rams, RB
Comment: Leonard has played a lot in the preseason with starter Steven Jackson sitting most of the time. Leonard has been very good, but won't see much action with Jackson as the lead man. If you draft Jackson, get Leonard as a handcuff. Leonard is a good pick late to stack your depth.

RONNIE BROWN
vs. Saints defense
Comment: The Miami coaching staff is disappointed with Brown as rumors continue that Brown could split time or even lose the starting job to Jesse Chatman. Brown could be a top back, but he runs behind a poor line. He needs to show something early in the season. He has been going in the second round, but you need to pass on him there.

JOSH MCCOWN
vs. Seattle defense
Comment: The starting quarterback job comes down to McCown and Daunte Culpepper. McCown will get the start. He'll need to play great to edge the experienced Culpepper.

MAURICE STOVALL
vs. Houston secondary
Comment: Stovall should win the receiver job opposite Joey Galloway, but Thursday's game should have an impact. Michael Clayton, David Boston and Ike Hilliard are also vying for the job. Only in very deep leagues should the winner be drafted.

INDIANAPOLIS @ CINCINNATI

Friday, 7:30 p.m. ET NFL Network
The starters across the league won't play much at all in the final week of the preseason. These games will determine the backend of the rosters. But for a short period of time in this game, you'll get to see some of the top fantasy stars.
