POSTED 9-6-07

Our weekly digest of everything fantasy football. Facts don't lie and The Huddle is full of 'em. Projections for the week of Sept. 6-10. Stats through Sept. 5:

ELI MANNING
New York Giants, QB
Comment: Manning had a very good preseason going 35-for-51 for 345 yards and three touchdowns.

SELVIN YOUNG
Denver Broncos, RB
Comment: Just when we thought the puzzle that is Mike Shanahan was easy to solve with Travis Henry as the clear No. 1 running back, he pulls a fast one and anoints Young as the backup over Mike Bell, we think. Young should be drafted now, but before you know it he could have zero fantasy relevance. Bell is now a fullback, but it's Denver so you never know.

CRAIG DAVIS
San Diego Chargers, WR
Comment: Davis won the starting job as the No. 2 receiver, but it's not often a Chargers receiver puts up big numbers. Only take him in very deep leagues.

JERRAMY STEVENS
Tampa Bay Buccaneers, TE
Comment: He had seven catches for 100 yards in the final game of the preseason.

NICK FOLK
Dallas Cowboys, K
Comment: Folk will be the kicker while Martin Gramatica is out due to a groin injury. The Cowboys will score often, so keep an eye on Folk.

NEW ORLEANS SAINTS
Defense
Comment: The Saints shutout the Dolphins in the preseason finale. It will be a major accomplishment if the Saints could hold their next opponent to no points through just one quarter. They play the Colts Thursday.

BYRON LEFTWICH
Free Agent, QB
Comment: He went from a starting quarterback on a potential playoff team to being cut just before the season. He could have some fantasy value depending on where he signs, but it's unlikely.

DEDE DORSEY
Free Agent, RB
Comment: Dorsey was mentioned all preseason as the backup to Joseph Addai and I'm sure some of you drafted him. The hunch here is the Colts didn't believe his real name is DeDe. Kenton Keith is the backup.

CALVIN JOHNSON
Detroit Lions, WR
Comment: Johnson isn't a starter yet. He'll see time in three-wide sets.

GREG OLSEN
Chicago Bears, TE
Comment: Olsen sprained his knee in the preseason finale. He could play in Week 1, but don't expect much.

SHAYNE GRAHAM
Cincinnati Bengals, K
Comment: Graham is questionable to start the season with a hip injury. He's a top kicker when healthy.

GREEN BAY PACKERS
Defense
Comment: The Packers allowed 30 points in a loss to the Titans in the preseason finale. They have a rough schedule the first four weeks beginning with the Eagles, but the Packers are a sleeper.

ALEX SMITH
San Francisco 49ers, QB
Comment: It should be a high scoring game and Smith should get plenty of opportunities to throw.

BEN ROETHLISBERGER
Pittsburgh Steelers, QB
Comment: Roethlisberger should be much better this year since he was coming off the motorcycle accident last season. He gets a nice matchup against the Browns in what should be a more wide open Steelers offense.

CARNELL WILLIAMS
Tampa Bay Buccaneers, RB
Comment: Seattle allowed 4.6 yards per carry last season and Marcus Tubbs, a run stuffer, is out for the season.

TRAVIS HENRY
Denver Broncos, RB
Comment: Henry should be ready to go after sitting the final two preseason games. He also goes against his former team in Buffalo, which will struggle against the run.

SANTONIO HOLMES
Pittsburgh Steelers, WR
Comment: The Steelers plan to open the offense. Playing the Browns, a young and inexperienced defense, is the perfect opportunity.

DEVERY HENDERSON
New Orleans Saints, WR
Comment: The Colts secondary has a new look and the Saints love to throw.

TODD HEAP
Baltimore Ravens, TE
Comment: Heap has a nice matchup against a bad Bengals defense. Expect McNair to look for him often.

ALGE CRUMPLER
Atlanta Falcons, TE
Comment: The Vikings defense was great at stopping the run last season. The Falcons will be forced to throw short routes, so Crumpler will be the beneficiary.

JOSH SCOBEE
Jacksonville Jaguars, K
Comment: The Jaguars should be able to move the ball against the Titans, but the offensive might have trouble punching the ball in the end zone.

NEIL RACKERS
Arizona Cardinals, K
Comment: It should be a high scoring game against the 49ers.

MINNESOTA
Defense
Comment: The Vikings defense was very good last season, especially against the run. The Falcons should struggle on the road with Joey Harrington leading the offense.

DENVER
Defense
Comment: The Broncos will have a very good defense and face a shaky offense right now in Buffalo.

VINCE YOUNG
Tennessee Titans, QB
Comment: It will be tough for the Titans to run the ball against the Jaguars, so Young is in for a tough game. He struggled against the Jaguars last season.

J.P. LOSMAN
Buffalo Bills, QB
Comment: A tough matchup against a very good Denver defense featuring Champ Bailey and Dre Bly.

THOMAS JONES
New York Jets, RB
Comment: He missed time with a calf injury and didn't play much in the preseason with his new team. If he plays, he gets the Patriots. Ouch.

JAMAL LEWIS
Cleveland Browns, RB
Comment: Lewis is supposedly in great shape. He'll get a tough Steelers defense in Week 1.

TERRY GLENN
Dallas Cowboys, WR
Comment: Glenn is expected to play against the Giants, but play it safe and go with a healthier alternative.

LEE EVANS
Buffalo Bills, WR
Comment: Will probably be the toughest matchup for Evans all season, going against Champ Bailey and Dre Bly.

L.J. SMITH
Philadelphia Eagles, TE
Comment: Smith is not 100 percent and questionable.

DESMOND CLARK
Chicago Bears, TE
Comment: The Chargers front seven is very good.

OLINDO MARE
New Orleans Saints, K
Comment: Mare missed three field goals last week.

SHAYNE GRAHAM
Cincinnati Bengals, K
Comment: Graham is still bother by a sore hip.

SAN FRANCISCO
Defense
Comment: Expect Arizona to put points on the scoreboard.

CAROLINA
Defense
Comment: Very tough to stop the Rams offense.

Oakland Raiders wideout Jerry Porter, coming off a miserable 2006, could rebound in a big way.

55 Total yards Kellen Winslow had in two games against Pittsburgh last season.

32 The 32-year-old Warrick Dunn will start for the Falcons after being limited in the preseason because of off-season shoulder and back surgery.

24 Passing touchdowns allowed by the Bengals last season. Expect more of the same this year.

1 Passes caught by Oakland receiver Jerry Porter in four games last season. He is a sleeper this season.

KENTON KEITH
Indianapolis Colts, RB
Comment: Keith was just named the backup to Joseph Addai and probably wasn't drafted. Keith could be valuable if Addai goes down, so grab the former CFL player. He had 64 yards on 12 carries in the preseason.

PLAXICO BURRESS
vs. Dallas secondary
Comment: Burress was plagued by injuries all preseason, but he should play against Dallas, which could be without shutdown corner Terence Newman. That means Burress could have a big game.

STEVEN JACKSON
vs. Carolina defense
Comment: The Panthers shutout the Rams last season, holding Jackson to 27 yards rushing. Jackson will bounce back in a big way.

JESSE CHATMAN
vs. Washington defense
Comment: If Chatman has a good game and Ronnie Brown struggles, Chatman could emerge as a fantasy starter. Keep a close eye on the Miami running back situation. Brown was just named the starter.

DREW BENNETT
St. Louis Rams, WR
Comment: Bennett didn't practice early in the week because of a strained quad muscle. He is questionable.

DARRELL JACKSON
San Francisco 49ers, WR
Comment: Jackson didn't practice early in the week because of a hamstring injury. The 49ers will be cautious with the veteran, but expect him to play on Monday against a shaky Cardinals secondary.

KEVIN JONES
Detroit Lions, RB
Comment: First, it was reported he was placed on the Physically Unable to Perform list. He is not, so that means he'll be able to practice with the team and did early in the week, but when he plays is uncertain. If you haven't drafted yet, don't let him slip too far.

VERNAND MORENCY
Green Bay Packers, RB
Comment: He practiced on Wednesday and is likely to play against the Eagles, although his time will probably be limited.

RANDY MOSS
New England Patriots, WR
Comment: Moss missed all of training camp with a hamstring injury. It will take him some time to get in football shape even if he plays against the Jets.

SAINTS @ COLTS

Thursday, 8 p.m. EST, NBC
A fantasy dream. There's a load of upper-tier fantasy players in this game and it should be a fun game to watch as well. Both defenses aren't that good, so expect a high-scoring game.
